Description

The Koshi-no Shinobu Pure Malt Whisky – Mizunara Oak Finish is an exceptional Japanese pure malt whisky crafted by the renowned Niigata Kotsu Shuzo Distillery, located in the Niigata Prefecture—an area famous throughout Japan for its crystal-clear spring water and cool, stable climate, creating ideal conditions for slow, high-quality maturation. The name “Shinobu” translates to “perseverance” and “dedication”, reflecting the distillery’s philosophy of patience, precision, and deep respect for traditional Japanese craftsmanship, resulting in a spirit that truly embodies the excellence of Japanese whisky making.

This is a **Pure Malt** expression: produced exclusively from 100% malted barley, with no added neutral grains, guaranteeing a level of purity, depth, and rich aromatic complexity far superior to standard blended whiskies. The spirit first matures slowly in high-quality American white oak and ex-bourbon casks, which build a smooth, sweet foundation of vanilla, caramel, toasted cereals, and ripe orchard fruits such as pear and green apple. After this initial aging period, the whisky is transferred into rare, hand-selected **Japanese Mizunara oak casks**—a precious, slow-growing wood native only to Japan, highly sought after by master blenders worldwide for its one-of-a-kind aromatic profile. Mizunara’s dense, tight grain develops slowly, imparting complex, exotic notes that cannot be replicated by any European or American oak.

The result is a spirit of outstanding harmony and depth. **On the nose**, it opens with an elegant, inviting bouquet: bright aromas of acacia honey, dried apricot, and toasted hazelnuts quickly give way to the signature character of Mizunara: delicate sandalwood, light cedar, gentle spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, subtle hints of coconut, and soft white flowers including jasmine and osmanthus. A faint touch of candied orange zest and fine leather adds further refinement and layered complexity.

**On the palate**, it is smooth, full-bodied, and perfectly balanced, with a silky, velvety texture that coats the tongue. The natural sweetness of the malt blends seamlessly with soft, well-integrated oak tannins, unfolding rich flavours of dried fruit, toasted almonds, white chocolate, and warm spices. The finish is long, clean, and lingering, leaving a pleasant, gently spicy and woody aftertaste that invites another sip.

This whisky is incredibly versatile. It shines when enjoyed **neat or with just one drop of mineral water** to fully unlock its full aromatic range. It is equally delightful served over ice, or used as a premium base for sophisticated, high-end cocktails. For tobacco lovers, it pairs beautifully with **mild to medium-bodied cigars**—especially Dominican, Nicaraguan, or Honduran blends—whose earthy, creamy notes complement the whisky’s sweetness and spice perfectly. It also matches wonderfully with dark chocolate, aged hard cheeses, roasted nuts, smoked salmon, and light fruit-based desserts.

Presented in an elegant bottle decorated with traditional Japanese samurai artwork and a matching premium gift box, it makes a distinguished gift for whisky enthusiasts and collectors alike. Legally imported and available exclusively through Winex HK, it offers exceptional quality and represents a true expression of Japan’s world-famous distilling heritage.
