Description
La Pensiva Roero Arneis DOC is a refined and distinctive white wine produced in the renowned Roero area, located in the province of Cuneo in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. This hilly territory, characterized by sandy and calcareous soils with excellent drainage, offers the perfect growing conditions for the Arneis grape, a native white variety that has been cultivated here for centuries and is known locally as the “little rascal” due to its delicate nature and aromatic complexity. Classified under the DOC designation, this wine strictly follows production regulations that ensure its origin, authenticity, and high quality, making it a true expression of the unique terroir of Roero.
Made exclusively from 100% Arneis grapes, the winemaking process begins with careful hand harvesting in mid‑September, when the fruit has reached the ideal balance between ripeness and acidity. Only the healthiest and most perfectly formed bunches are selected to preserve the wine’s natural aromatic profile. After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed at low temperature to extract the clear juice, which is then fermented in temperature‑controlled stainless steel tanks. This method avoids the use of oak, allowing the pure, fresh character of the Arneis grape to shine through without any external influence, resulting in a wine that is bright, vibrant, and true to its origin.
During fermentation, the temperature is kept between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius to slowly develop the delicate aromas and preserve the natural freshness of the fruit. Once fermentation is complete, the wine remains on its fine lees for a short period, which adds subtle depth and a smooth texture without overpowering its primary fruit notes. It is then carefully clarified and bottled, ready to be enjoyed while still young and fresh, though it also develops interesting mineral nuances when stored properly for a few years.
Visually, La Pensiva Roero Arneis DOC presents a brilliant pale straw‑yellow color with soft greenish highlights, appearing bright and lively in the glass. On the nose, it offers an elegant and complex aromatic bouquet dominated by delicate floral notes of acacia, hawthorn, and chamomile, beautifully combined with fresh fruit scents of white peach, ripe pear, green apple, and citrus zest. There are also subtle hints of almond, white flowers, and a distinct mineral undertone typical of the sandy soils of Roero, which adds a pleasant and distinctive character to the overall aroma.
On the palate, it is medium‑bodied, smooth, and well‑balanced, with a crisp and refreshing acidity that provides liveliness and structure. The flavors mirror the nose perfectly, with bright notes of orchard fruit and citrus leading to a clean, dry, and pleasantly almond‑tinged finish that is both long and satisfying. With an alcohol content of approximately 12.5% by volume, it is versatile and easy to drink, suitable for many different occasions. It is best served chilled at a temperature between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius, which enhances its freshness and allows all its aromatic nuances to be fully appreciated.
La Pensiva Roero Arneis DOC represents the perfect expression of Piedmontese white winemaking tradition, combining the unique characteristics of the local terroir with careful, modern production techniques. It is a wine that stands out for its elegance, aromatic purity, and remarkable drinkability, making it a wonderful choice for both everyday enjoyment and special moments.
